Developing a body of work

I was thinking about my trace dance series. When I spoke to Angela she said she felt all my new pieces have their own identity.  Considering this, it feels like a slight conflict; the work must sit together as a series but also stand alone. By default there is a chronology to the series, they were also made in a relatively short space of time. There is a commonality but not generic quality to the marks. Each piece has its own sets of lines but these extend beyond the work and between the picture planes. There are elements of colour which run through each piece; as mentioned in a previous post, various shades of pink – magenta, salmon, coral – connect the individual pieces. The question I have is how do you make within a series without replication?  Is each piece a stand alone piece or does each respond to those before and around it? Just some thoughts. ..
